Bitchin' and complaining

I continue to struggle with Photoshop, but I'm beginning to understand it more.  The photo above is a concept for the Welcome page of my website.  I'm trying to do something like this:

Problem is I don't understand website dimensions. Designs look different on different screens and sometimes they're cut off.  Even though it's fun at times, I'd rather be paying someone to do this. But I don't have the money right now.  Oh well, must soldier on.

They look different on different browsers too. Are you designing a website from scratch, that is without an open source Content Management System?

I only know the basics of Photoshop myself but your job looks good to me.

Ummm...iWeb comes with templates and stuff. I'm doing that.

It should take care of optimization then. I don't know it personally, but Mac users find useful a tool called RapidWeaver which is good if you build a website on your registered domain.

A lot of it depends on how you actually set things up in your code (HTML or whatever). Sometimes you can make your picture fit on screen, other times you can make it where they scroll. In school, I was taught to generally set up a web page at 800 pixels by 600 pixels, but I think it has gone up some now, so you might go with 1064 x 768.

Also, here's a site that might help you in your Photoshop adventures: http://www.photoshopmosaic.com/Photoshop-tutorials/1
